Some of the most carefully designed spaces in a house are also the quietest.
It may be a short passage with no furniture or an almost empty landing between two rooms.
On plan, it can look unused.
In reality, it allows one atmosphere to finish before the next begins.
Remove that pause and materials, lighting, and activity start to compete.
The transition is what helps each room feel distinct and makes moving through the house feel calm rather than busy.
We did not forget to design that hallway.
We designed it to hold still.
